  You need to learn to go your own way and be different from everyone else. Who cares what other peoople have to say as long as you feel confortable in your own skin is all that matters.

  I think this person has lost someone who passed on because they said “what you’d think’, not “what you would think”. Perhaps this is a good thing that one lives to make someone maybe a parent who has passed on, proud.

  I do this as well. One the one hand, it makes things so hard, but on the other hand, it’s easy, because it kind of makes your decisions for you The worst part is not getting reassurance from the person you’re trying to impress.
  Good luck, and don’t stress, you’re not the only person who does this. In fact I’d bet most people do it to some extent.

  It isn’t always sad you know… I base my life on what my dad thinks because I love him very much and I know that he cares about me and my future. He has helped me overcome everything to get into university, to find my place in life and to be happy.

  i used to try to impress my father…but i guess i was never good enough to…cuz he never showed me he was proud and still doesn’t …so i stopped trying and became my own person…and i am a lot happier now…

  I know how if feels. I base alot of my decisions on what my mom thinks. just to avoid discussions. or i lie to her. which isn’t any better. she will never change and I don’t feel like dealing with it any more.
